Perlis teams up with China company to build fishing boats

KUALA PERLIS — Oct. 12, 2017: Perlis Marine Engineering Sdn. Bhd. (PME) is targetting to build over 100 fishing vessels within five years in partnership with LuHaiFeng Holding (M) Sdn. Bhd. (LHF).

The joint-venture was sealed following the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the company’s wharf here yesterday.

General manager, Captain Ahmad Azamri Muhamad Nor signed for PME and while LHF was represented by its executive director Ben Lee.

PME will provide the facilities here while LHF will bring in the ship components from its parent company in Qingdao, China.

Each vessel measuring between 22 and 25 metres long will be made of stainless steel or fibreglass and is expected to cost less than RM2 million.

Lee said that the MOU includes technology transfer. Initially experts from Qingdao Luhaifeng Foods Ltd. (QDLHF), the parent company of LHF, will be stationed at PME to assist in the installation. So far the company has received six orders.

PME is a subsidiary of the Perlis State Economic Development Corporation and LHF is owned by the QDLHF group of companies. It is located in the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone and has a deep wharf. — Bernama
