IPOH — March 9, 2020: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu today announced that Pribumi Bersatu, Umno and PAS have agreed to form the new state government.
“With this (Perikatan Nasional) coalition, there will a stable government and strong ties with the federal government. This will help us to continue the development agenda and look after the people’s welfare,” said Faizal at a press conference here.
Present were Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad and Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria.
Faisal also announced that former PKR Kuala Kurau assemblyman Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamhari and independent assemblyman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi have joined Pribumi Bersatu.
The new ruling coalition in Perak now has 32, with 25 from Umno, four from Pribumi Bersatu and three from PAS.
Faizal and other leaders of the coalition will request an audience with Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on the formation of the goverment. The ruler will then decide on who will be the next MB.
Three assemblymen who were previously with Pakatan Harapan have declared themselves as independents who will support Faizal. They are Paul Yong (DAP-Tronoh), Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Munaim (Amanah-Titi Serong) and A. Sivasubraniam (DAP-Buntong).
“Looking at the formation of Perikatan Nasional, there is no representative from the Chinese or Indian community. That is why we decide to become independents,” said Yong.
According to Yong, the issue of party hopping should not arise in this case because “the situation in Perak is slightly different”.
