IPOH — Aug. 25, 2019: Perak DAP politician Paul Yong Choo Kiong has finally changed his stand and will go on leave decided to take leave as state executive councillor to focus on his rape trial.

The Tronoh assemblyman had until this point insisted that there was no compelling reason for him to take leave as an exco despite calls from all over the place for him to do so, in line with the position often adopted by his senior party leaders whenever a politician from Barisan Nasional faced a major allegation in court.

Yong’s explanation for the change of mind was after a careful consideration to prove his innocence which would also clear his name.

According to Yong, he has asked his lawyers to request the court to fix the earliest possible trial dates.

On Friday, Yong, 49, pleaded not guilty to raping his 23-year-old former maid on July 7 at a house in Meru here.
