PAS to decide in few weeks cooperation with others in opposition

PAS syura council chief Datuk Mahfodz Mohamed

KUALA LUMPUR – March 22, 2017: This is a truly confusing situation, with party officials making different statements on the same issue.

In view of the contradictions, your guess is as good as mine if PAS will go it alone in the next general election or will cooperate with the Pakatan Harapan coalition or have an electoral understanding only with Pribumi Bersatu, the party led by former Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

According to PAS Syura Council head Datuk Mahfodz Moahamed, the party has yet to make a final decision and will only decide this at a meeting scheduled for early next month.

But yesterday, vice-president Datuk Mohd. Amar Nik Abdullah stated that PAS had closed the door of negotiations with Pribumi Bersatu after the latter officially joined Pakatan Harapan on Monday.

“Our principle is that, any political party wanting to cooperate with us should not establish ties with DAP and Amanah, as clarified by the vice-president.

“Logically, since Pribumi Bersatu has officially established full cooperation with Pakatan Harapan, our ties should be reviewed by the party soon,” Mahfodz said but adding that PAS has yet to make an official decision.

Mahfodz is also hoping that a final decision on whether to work with other opposition parties in the next general election could be reached before the party’s annual assembly later next month.
