KUALA LUMPUR — May 11, 2017: The PAS Syura Council, the party’s highest decision-making body, today unanimously decided to immediately terminate the party’s political cooperation with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), as demanded by members at its recent annual assembly.

The decision was made after reference to PKR’s alleged violation of several conditions in the cooperation that was forged before the general election in 2004.

The council’s secretary Datuk Dr. Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh said the decision had yet to be conveyed to the PKR.

The status of the PAS-PKR cooperation in establishing the Selangor government along with the DAP will be left to be determined by the PAS central committee.

Among those who attended today’s meeting which lasted about two hours were central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and information chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi.

Elaborating on the reasons for ending the relation, Nik Muhammad said there had been too many violations of the terms of the cooperation, one of which was the opposition to the Islamic agenda of PAS.

He said PKR also betrayed PAS by forging cooperation with those who wanted to topple the Kelantan government and opposed PAS in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections last year. — Bernama
