KUALA LUMPUR – Oct 13, 2016: PAS supporters have expressed their irritation towards remarks by former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in an interview with KiniTV.

For them, it is not for Mahathir to tell PAS to join the alliance between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, which Mahathir initiated, and Pakatan Harapan, considering past crises faced by PAS when it was with the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat.

The supporters are also shaken by Mahathir’s view that PAS will be deemed as supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) if it rejects the alliance.

In the interview, Mahathir said PAS must cooperate with other opposition parties to topple the ruling Barisan Nasional.

According to him, Pribumi Bersatu and PH had discussed ways they can cooperate with PAS.

“Think about the objective… the objective is to overthrow the government, and the best way to overthrow the government is for us to work as one.

“We may not get the majority (if PAS refuses to join in) and in fact if PAS, of course PAS is supporting Najib’s 1MDB,” he said.

This upset the PAS supporters upset as they see Mahathir as attempting to drag the party into his new political game and for his arrogant stance in chiding their party.

In her comments, Suliana Sidek asked Mahathir to respect PAS. “Leave PAS alone if you are confident that PH-Bersatu (Pribumi Bersatu) can topple BN in the next general election on their own.

“It’s not easy if you don’t have the strength and election machinery in place, so good luck.”

Mohamad Ayob Mohd Noor had this to say: “Dear Mahathir, why bother to wheedle for PAS if you believe that you can topple BN all by yourself? That accusation against PAS just shows that all of you (Pribumi Bersatu and PH) are the real bunch of fools.”

Mat Tompo expressed regret that Mahathir was still hoping for PAS to support his mission. “PAS does not work for you or Najib.”

For Tan Tar, Mahathir’s latest antics show that he is a desperate but arrogant man begging for support from PAS.

Habibuddin Hashim commented that the situation is perplexing because PAS was kicked out from the Pakatan coalition. “Why do you (Mahathir) have to force PAS to join your new alliance? You and Pakatan do not have shame at all.”

AS usual there are some who support Mahathir.

Adi Yusrin thinks it’s good for Mahathir to make the call. “PAS supporters should be made to understand that if they do not want to cooperate to fight against Najib, they are indeed supporting Najib’s 1MDB.”
