KUALA LUMPUR – May 18, 2017: PAS has again made clear its stand that only the sultan can dismiss its representatives in the Selangor executive council.

In repeating the position it declared three days ago, party secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan today quoted Article 53 (Clause 7) of the Selangor constitution that states that an executive committee member will continue to hold his or her post as long as the sultan wishes it.

PKR’s Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali has been under pressure from his party and allies to sack the three PAS state excos after PAS officially severed ties with PKR last week.

The trio are Chempaka assemblyman Datuk Iskandar Samad, Datuk Dr. Ahmad Yunus Hairi of Sijangkang and Zaidy Abdul Talib of Taman Templer.

At the press conference today, PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man nonetheless denied that the party had issued a directive for its assemblymen to oppose the PKR-led state government if the trio were to be forced to resign.

Pakatan Harapan has 29 assemblymen in the 56-seat Selangor legislative assembly — DAP (14), PKR (13) and Parti Amanah Negara (two). On the opposing side there are now 13 from PAS and 12 from the Barisan Nasional and two independents.
