KUALA LUMPUR – May 5, 2017: The PAS Syura Council has not issued an order asking members to aid Umno to beat the DAP in the next general election.

Hence, the WhatsApp message regarding this is simply a hoax.

“It’s all lies. This is the work of our enemies.

“I am a senior member of the council and even I didn’t know when the council made such a directive,” said Datuk Mahfodz Mohamed, who is also the party’s Dewan Ulama chief.

A check by The Mole showed that the message was first published in a WhatsApp chat group that was rooting for the Islamist party to foster good ties with Umno.

The supposed instruction was written by a WhatsApp user called ‘Ustazah Hamidah’ who explained that she was among those present at a briefing held moments after the party’s annual assembly ended last week.

Talk of a so-called cooperation between PAS and Umno has been widely talked about ever since Umno supported the effort by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to empower the country’s syariah courts.

Another development that helped fuel the speculation of a PAS-Umno cooperation was when a motion to cut political ties with long-time ally PKR was unanimously accepted by delegates at the assembly.

Whether or not the motion will be agreed to by the Syura Council will be subject to further discussions, with the result expected to be known next week.
