KUALA LUMPUR – February 25, 2020: The MCA has hit back at the DAP for blaming Barisan Nasional for the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
According to MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, the Pakatan government was supposed to uphold the mandate of the people and focus on good governance but the coalition’s unending feud ultimately led to its demise.
The Pakatan federal government has collapsed following the departure of Pribumi Bersatu and the resignation of 11 PKR MPs to become independents.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday blamed Umno, MCA, MIC and also PKR MPs who left their party over the resignation of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
Mahathir, after his resignation yesterday, was appointed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the interim PM.
Chong said MCA believes that the dissolution of parliament which would then lead to a snap poll is the most appropriate step to solve the crisis but the party will respect the constitutional powers of the Agong.
“MCA will also make the necessary preparations for the possibility of a snap election. Still, considering MCA’s limited strength, the situation right now is far beyond our control and influence.
“Regardless, we respect the Agong’s powers in making the right decision that will end this crisis. With the people’s best interests in mind, MCA will carry on with the BN spirit and do our very best to assist in restoring stability to our country,” said Chong.
The Agong has summoned all MPs to Istana Negara today and tomorrow for a one-on-one interview over the current political situation.
