KUALA LUMPUR — March 20, 2018: Pakatan Harapan has admitted to having sought the assistance of foreign media to raise matters on 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
According to its chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi Bersatu) chairman Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, this was done because local media had not reported on such matters.
Mahathir spoke to reporters at the Parliament building. Pribumi Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng were present.
He was asked to comment on the statement by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang on March 17 that Pakatan Harapan had solicited foreign intervention to topple the Barisan Nasional government.
Also in Kuala Lumpur, the Umno Grassroots Movement (Gaum) today lodged a police report on allegations of foreign interference aimed at overthrowing the government.
Gaum chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar said the report was lodged after it had obtained information on foreign interference as well as the use of foreign media to publish defamatory articles.
On March 11, Gaum sent a letter to a magazine in the United Kingdom which published a defamatory article against the prime minister and the government. The article was published by the London-based The Economist on March 10. — Bernama
