KUALA LUMPUR — December 9, 2015: The Umno supreme council (MT) special meeting tonight decided that only the party president will deliver the winding up speech at the end of this year’s general assembly on Saturday.

Vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the decision was made after taking into account that the opening and winding up speeches of the three wings were made by their respective leaders.

“Therefore, the decision has been made that the winding up speech at the main assembly will only be by the party president,” he said after the meeting here tonight.

The hour-long meeting, chaired by Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was attended by deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Zahid, fellow vice-presidents Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein — and all other MT members.

The party’s main assembly will begin tomorrow at Putra World Trade Centre.

Zahid also said that the meeting did not discuss any disciplinary action against anyone.

“Don’t do negative speculation… what has been decided is what will be carried out,” he remarked.

Instead tonight’s meeting only discussed two items, namely the report from the meetings of the three wings and the motions to be tabled, which are on the policy speech, economics, religion and education.

Muhyiddin and Shafie confirmed to reporters that they would attend the opening tomorrow.

A total of 5,738 members comprising 2,762 for the main assembly, 993 for the Wanita meeting, 992 for Youth and 991 for Puteri are at this year’s convention. — Bernama
