One Malaysian confirmed injured in White Island volcanic eruption

KUALA LUMPUR — Dec. 10, 2019: A Malaysian has been seriously injured in the volcanic eruption on White Island, off New Zealand’s North Island yesterday.

According to Wisma Putra, the victim is in critical condition and is being treated at Christchurch Hospital.

However, the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington has not yet received further information on a Malaysian who was reported dead, said the foreign ministry in its statement today.

A volcano erupted on White Island, situated 48 kilometres from the east coast of the Bay of Plenty area, as tourists were visiting the privately-owned island.
