SHAH ALAM — Dec. 13, 2019: A fire officer suspected that arson was the cause of a fire but returned the room to the victim’s wife on the day of the incident itself.

Officer Abdul Halim Zulkefeli also did not include the point about arson in his report on that day, claiming that this was because he didn’t know who was the suspect then.

According to Halim, he returned the room to Samirah Muzaffar because he had taken everything he required in his investigation but claimed to have told one Sergeant Rahim of the police about the suspected criminal element.

Samirah and two teenagers are charged with her former Indonesian maid of murdering Nazrin Hassan at Mutiara Homes, Mutiara Damansara, on June 14, 2018. Nazrin, a CEO of Cradle Fund, was Samirah’s husband.

When it was suggested by Samirah’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee that it was unwise for him to to return the following day to investigate further, Halim disagreed, although he did think of an internal element being involved.

The trial continues Monday.
