PETALING JAYA — May 16, 2019: Another 11 automated awareness safety systems (Awas) cameras are expected to be added at accident-prone locations along the North-South Highway, with the locations to be decided after a study by several parties including PLUS Malaysia Berhad and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).
Currently the expressway has 19 cameras and one area where more cameras will be installed is around the Menora Tunnel between Ipoh and Sungai Perak where accidents frequently occur, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar after the handover of 10 enforcement vehicles from PLUS to the Road Transport Department at Persada PLUS today.
The highway concessionaire will bear the cost of the 11 units of cameras, in addition to regular maintenance costs.
The Honda CRV vehicles from PLUS will be used by the RTD for patrolling and enforcement on the expressway. — Bernama
