KUALA LUMPUR – November 8, 2017: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will not tap or record any phone calls made in this country.

“It’s fake news,” texted Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak to The Mole when queried about claims in social media on this.

The claim that was widely circulated via WhatsApp also claimed that the MCMC will, starting tomorrow, monitor every Malaysian’s social media accounts, including WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook.

It also claimed that MCMC’s round-the-clock surveillance was to prevent the spread of seditious messages that could harm the country.

Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim has also denied the ministry had an arrangement with the MCMC on this.
