No Malaysian casualties in Taiwan quake

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 2018 : The Foreign Ministry said today it had not received any report of Malaysians casualties in the deadly earthquake that hit the eastern county of Hualien in Taiwan on Tuesday.

“The ministry wishes to confirm that thus far there are no reports of deaths or injuries involving Malaysians in the affected areas,” it said in a statement.

The ministry, through the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre (MFTC) in Taipei, was closely monitoring the situation.

Malaysians residing in Taiwan were advised to be vigilant and in communication with the MFTC and to comply with all the instructions and safety advice issued by the Taiwanese authorities.

Malaysians in need of consular assistance may contact the MFTC at the 8th Floor, San Ho Plastic Building, 102, Dun Hua North Road, Taipei.

It was reported that seven people were killed and over 250 injured in the 6.4-magnitude temblor that occurred about 165 km southeast of Taipei. – Bernama
