ALOR STAR — November 23, 2016: PLUS will implement the electronic toll collection (ETC) system at nine toll plazas in the north starting next Wednesday.

The toll plazas are at Hutan Kampung, Alor Star Utara, Alor Star Selatan, Pendang, Gurun, Sungai Petani Utara, Sungai Petani Selatan, Bertam and Sungai Dua.

From the date, all transactions will be done electronically either with the Touch n Go card, PLUSMiles card or SmartTAG.

The company’s chief operating officer Mohammad Fuad Khusairi said here today that PLUS is currently carrying out promotions to encourage motorists to switch to using the ETC at RM5 only until December 31.

In addition, class 1 vehicle users paying toll electronically at the nine toll plazas are entitled to a rebate of 10 per cent between November 30 and January 31.

According to Fuad, more than 70 per cent of motorists passing through the toll plazas were already using the electronic system and this is expected to increase to over 80 per cent when the ETC is fully implemented.

Electronic transactions average about 1,000 an hour compared to only 180 by cash. — Bernama
