KUALA LUMPUR – January 11, 2018: Naza Kia launched yesterday what was said to be the first for a car in Malaysia this year, with the Kia Picanto targeted to account for up to 50 per cent of its sales target for 2018.
The sole variant is a 1.2 EX automatic priced at RM49,888 with 5-year unlimited warranty, which costs slightly more than Produa’s Myvi 1.3 Premium X at RM 48,300.
The engine is carried over from the outgoing model which is the 1.2 litre Kappa II naturally-aspirated four-cylinder producing 84 PS at 6,000 rpm and 122 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Also carried over is the four-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior wise, the new Picanto features a projector halogen headlight with U-shaped LED daytime running lights and LED indicators. The Kia’s signature grill has also widened.
From the side it dons a dynamic design with bolder body lines and is equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels.
The rear of the car sports a more angular look and is complemented with larger LED tail lights.
Interior-wise is where this car excels. It comes equipped with a 7-inch floating touchscreen at the centre of the dashboard featuring Apple Carplay and Android Auto, making it one of cheapest cars to have this feature.
Also included in the list of equipment is a navigation system with 3D mapping, keyless entry, push-start button, Bluetooth, AUX, manual fabric seats and audio remote control.
There are six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist and stability control while adding on double the amount of advanced high strength steel than before, at 44% which results in a safer and lighter car.
Making a comeback is the NOVUS brand of accessories, priced at RM5,618 for the NOVUS X (bodykit, solar window tint, leather seats, dashcam) and RM3,498 for the NOVUS S (bodykit only).
