MANTIN, Sept 14 2018 : A team of Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel joined volunteers in distributing food for the needy in conjunction with the launch of En Xin Soup Kitchen here on Monday.
The 30 navy personnel were led by RMN KD Sri Klang executive officer Commander Tamreez Kaur and Leftenan Commander Nanthakumar Karuppiah.
The simple ceremony to launch the soup kitchen was officiated by Negeri Sembilan State Executive Committtee members Nicole Tan Lee Koon and J.Arul Kumar.
En Xin Soup Kitchen was initiated by the En Xin Foundation with the aim of providing food for the less fortunate. Its volunteers coordinate and prepare the free meals once every two weeks on Monday.
Founder of the En Xin Soup Kitchen, Jacyntha Lo Nyok Moo said the food aid was offered to orphanages, old folks, the disabled, En Xin registered members, and others in need.
“Today, there are many around us who are losing weight because they do not have enough food.
“We all can help them. Try to feel with our heart by eating 80 per cent of the food we have and leaving the remainder for those in need. That way, you will find yourself getting healthier, contented and happy,” she said.
She said the setting up of the soup kitchen was also meant to create better awareness to help the needy, especially in low-income suburban town areas.
“Hopefully, with better awareness there will also be better medical aid and other such facilities for them in future,” she said.
Besides providing food such as rice, vegetables, buns, fruits, cakes, biscuits, and mineral water, volunteers of the En Xin Soup Kitchen also distributed other essential items such as detergents, medicine, seasonal food, and even ang pow (small cash handouts) depending on the sponsorship.
