SUBANG — December 3, 2019: National youth bowler Muhd. Azizi Naim has a special mission at the 20th Storm U22 International Junior All-Stars Bowling Championship which starts here today.

Azizi, who is the defending champion, is watching closely two brothers, Justin and Brandon Bohn, who are sons of legendary American bowler Parker III Bohn.

Parker is an inductee of the Professional Bowlers Association’s hall of fame and in 2008 was ranked the 10th greatest player of the previous 50 years.

“I’m really looking forward to bowl against the elder Bohn, Justin. I think he’ll be the fiercest contender. But honestly, both are very talented. They have grown a lot over the past one year,” said Azizi.

“This will be my final year to compete in this competition [due to the age limit of 22] and I intend to retain my title which everyone tells me will be a difficult feat.”

The 10-day championship starting today is organised by Sunway Mega Lanes and has attracted over 400 entries from 13 countries.

At a recent press conference Sunway Mega Lanes executive director Foong Tak Meng spoke about how the championship which began in 2000 has become an incubator in cultivating young talents.

“We started off humbly and I think we were one of the first to introduce youth bowling on such a big scale. This is our forte. Now so many countries are promoting youth bowling as part of their coaching programme,” said Foong.

A total prize money of RM150,000 awaits winners.
