KUALA LUMPUR – April 14, 2017: Former PAS deputy president Datuk Dr. Nasharudin Mat Isa will sue opposition politician Rafizi Ramli for defamation in an allegation tied to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
He described as baseless and irrelevant all accusations made by the PKR vice-president in his statutory declaration.
“I strongly deny his baseless allegation of my having received any form of payments and/or funding from the sources as described in his statutory declaration (SD).”
Rafizi in his SD yesterday accused Nasharudin of receiving an undisclosed amount of money from 1MDB’s former subsidiary, SRC International Sdn. Bhd. He alleged that the funding was channelled through the bank account of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He claimed to have received the information from an unnamed former senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer who was leading the 1MDB investigation and has since retired. Earlier today, Rafizi lodged a report with the MACC on the same.
Rafizi first made the allegation after PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had tabled the syariah courts empowerment bill, RUU355, in parliament last week but did not name the person.
He repeated the allegation a few days later but again didn’t reveal the identity of the person.
