KUALA LUMPUR — Jan. 10, 2018: The Prime Minister’s Office has clarified that his siblings and acquaintances in the delegation for his current working visit to Saudi Arabia are there on their own expense.

Of this group, only Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s mother Tun Rahah Mohammad Noah was on the same flight with him.

Najib is on the visit from yesterday to January 12 at the invitation of the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

Bernama quoted a statement from the PMO today as saying that the visit would enable the two leaders to discuss bilateral matters agreed upon by Malaysia and Saudi Arabia during the maiden visit of King Salman to Malaysia last year.

“Besides, it is the intention of the prime minister to perform the umrah (minor pilgrimmage) during this visit. Datuk Seri Najib has invited his family members and a few acquaintances to be with him when he performs the umrah,” it said.

The delegation also comprises his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Minister in the PM’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

According to the statement, the names of the family members and acquaintances were entered into the official delegation list to facilitate administrative procedures with Saudi Arabia for the umrah arrangement.

The PM and members of the delegation were accorded the status of state guests by the Saudi Arabian government.
