KUALA LUMPUR — May 18, 2018: A safe in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house in Taman Duta here was found to have contained his marriage certificate and small amounts of old foreign currencies.
According to Bernama, a Najib spokesman reaffirmed that the steel safe was over 20 years old and was forcibly opened by locksmiths as the key had gone missing.
Police had reportedly encountered difficulty in trying to open the safe even after several hours of drilling it.
The press today also reported that police would be attempting to open another eight safes at Sri Perdana, the official residence of the prime minister, also with the help of locksmiths.
The search at the former PM’s private home and five other locations is part of the investigation into problems linked to sovereign fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
