KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 2020 : Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today said he will continue to defend himself from the criminal charges against him in court.
Najib, who talked to reporters as he walks towards the court room this afternoon said he was not hoping for the charges to be dropped.
“No, no, I have already made my statement, we are going through the court process. That’s the only credible way,” he said.
He was in court today to attend his corruption trial involving seven charges in connection with former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Najib, in a recent Facebook post, had compared his situation to that of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng who had faced a corruption case before becoming part of government after the May 2018 general election.
He wrote that Lim had asked for his case to be dropped and that the latter’s case was dropped in July 2018.
He stated that unlike Lim, he does not want to be denied the right to clear his name in court.
Najib is facing three separate and ongoing trials.
