KUALA LUMPUR — April 22, 2019: A welfare home in Pekan and the widow of a former aide today confirmed receiving financial contributions from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak a few years ago.
Najib, currently the MP for Pekan, was at that time the patron of the home which accommodated orphans.
According to Abdul Munir Othman, a trustee of Rumah Penyayang Tun Abdul Razak, a cheque for RM400,000 was issued for the home in 2015, with the money used to pay staff salaries, buy food, clothes and books for the children.
Also called as a witness today was Manisah Othman, the widow of a former private secretary to Najib, who confirmed receiving three cheques for RM52,680 to pay for her children’s education after her husband died. The aide, Amirudin Mohd. Baria, died of cancer in June 2013.
She recalled Najib promising to do so when visiting Amirudin in hospital. Amirudin was Najib’s private when the later was education minister.
Also receiving money from Najib was the Padang Serai Umno division, with its leader Datuk Asmadi Abu Talib confirming about a cheque for RM50,000 under his name.
Asmadi told Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah that the money was spent to help victims of floods and thunderstorm in Padang Serai as well as to help schools organise extra classes for students.
