KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 2016 : Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who were sacked from Umno on Friday, intend to continue their political struggle through a new platform.
However, both did not state in detail on the new political platform, whether by joining another party or forming a new party.
Muhyiddin, the former deputy prime minister and former Umno deputy president, said currently he and Mukhriz were still discussing the matter and getting the views of various quarters in determining their new political direction.
“Unofficially, we have received offers from other political parties to join them but all these have to be thought about deeply.
“Mukhriz and I will be making a big decision in the history of our lives,” he said at a press conference, here, today which was also attended by Mukhriz, the former Kedah menteri besar.
Two days ago, the Umno Supreme Council sacked Muhyiddin and Mukhriz from the party for breach of party discipline and suspended the membership of its vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Asked on the time fame of determining his new political platform, Muhyiddin could not state it, saying he needed to think deeply in the context of the nation today.
“To set up a new party, it can even be done today but it’s just not about forming a new party. It’s not because of me or Mukhriz, it’s about the country. What we need to think about is the direction of the country,” he said. – Bernama
