PUTRAJAYA — April 25, 2020: Despite being nothing else but a politician through and through, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has not thought about politics since becoming Malaysia’s eight prime minister on March 1.
Undeniably this has everything to do with the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the country from late January and has until this afternoon caused 99 deaths from 5,742 cases.
“The people do not want to talk about politics…. they are sick of it. They want to know what the government, the Cabinet ministers, the administration today is doing to tackle the issues they are facing.
“That is why in the statements before this, I have not talked about politics. If not, later people will say the Covid-19 situation has not been resolved but he is talking about his party, his coalition and the legitimacy of the government.
“All this the people are not interested,” Muhyiddin said during an interview with Astro Awani and RTM that was aired tonight.
But when a suitable time arises, Muhyiddin will talk politics.
However, during these times the people want to see a functional government and Muhyiddin intends to prove that to them.
In February Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad resigned as prime minister following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government which led to a crisis when the warring factions initially could not agree who should be PM.
Pakatan proposed Mahathir but he was unable to obtain the majority support of MPs.
In came Muhyiddin, propped up by the support from Umno and PAS.
