MAY 27 — Jose Mourinho has agreed to become the new manager of Manchester United after a meeting with the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Edward at a central London hotel Thursday afternoon.

The former Chelsea manager replaces Dutchman Louis Van Gaal who was sacked on Monday, two days after United had won the FA Cup.

Talks between Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes and senior United officials went on for three days, with the image rights of the Portuguese believed to be the main sticking point.

News of an agreement was first reported by Sky Sports News HQ and the club is expected to officially announce the appointment today.
