KUALA LUMPUR — Feb. 22, 2018: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan today filed a suit against Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president Mohd. Rafizi Ramli over alleged defamatory statements regarding Ekspo Negaraku 2017.
Rahman filed the suit through Messrs Raja Riza & Associates on January 30 naming Rafizi as the sole defendant.
Counsel Abdul Halim Abdul Karim for Rafizi said Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab fixed March 29 for management of the case when it was mentioned in his chambers today with Datuk M. Reza Hassan representing Rahman.
In the statement of claim, Rahman said that last November 10 Rafizi posted on his Facebook account that he would hold a press conference on abuses committed by a minister.
Rahman said Rafizi held a press conference titled “Umno’s latest scandal involves which minister?” at his office in Sungai Besi on December 11.
The press conference was telecast live on the defendant’s Facebook account, with the minister claimed had the intent of defaming him.
He further claims that the defamatory statements were intended at making him seemed dishonest and corrupt and involved him in dubious transactions.
As a result Rahman said his reputation and honour was affected and that he was looked down by society for his alleged self-interest and the interests of his family.
He is also seeking an order for Rafizi to publish an apology in major Malay and English newspapers under terms agreed to by Rahman. — Bernama
