KUALA LUMPUR — April 8, 2019: The recently concluded Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) recorded over RM1.6 billion in sales, an increase of 5.7 per cent from the previous edition.
The exhibition did sales of RM987.7 million while the international sourcing programme contributed RM615.6 million.
“The 5.7 per cent increase in sales this year exceeded our target of 3.0 per cent,” Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Wan Latiff Wan Musa told reporters today.
Malaysian companies had the biggest chunk of business, recording 81 per cent of total sales while other countries that saw notable sales included Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan.
Food and beverage dominated sales, followed by Islamic financial, pharmaceutical and cosmetics, and palm oil and palm oil-based products.
Mihas 2019 also attracted the most participation in its history, with over 1,000 exhibitors from 44 countries, including new participating countries such as Bosnia, Kuwait, Kazakhstan and Portugal. Last year the showcase attracted about 800 exhibitors from 32 countries.
This year there were almost 30,000 trade visitors from 80 countries compared with 21,000 last year. — Bernama
