KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 2020: The son of former defence minister Mohamad Sabu has today been sentence to eight months’ prison for abuse of drugs.
Ahmad Saiful Islam was arrested in an entertainment centre at Jalan Ampang here in January last year before tested positive for cannabis.
Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim said the Saiful’s defence team had failed to raise reasonable doubt over the prosecution’s case.
He also said the relatively harsh jail sentence could have been avoided if the accused had pleaded guilty at the start of the case hearing.
He ordered Saiful to serve his jail term from today and dismissed the defence’s application for a stay of execution pending an appeal.
