KUALA LUMPUR — March 13, 2019: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin told Dewan Rakyat today the mandatory death sentence under the Penal Code and Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act will be replaced with a death sentence at the judge’s discretion.

The decision to amend the laws was made following a study.

The removal of the mandatory death sentence will involve eleven offences. — Bernama
