PUTRAJAYA, April 2 2018 : Malaysia today called on the international community to act swiftly and decisively to avoid further loss of Palestinian lives following the protests at the Gaza-Israeli border last Friday.

Condemning in the strongest terms Israel’s aggression against the Palestinians in the peaceful ‘Great Return March’, Wisma Putra said in a statement that the excessive use of by Israel was totally uncalled for and unacceptable.

The incident has killed at least 15 Palestinians, some of whom died due to the use of live ammunition, and more than 1,000 were reportedly injured by suffocation due to the tear gas used by the Israeli security forces.

On Friday, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip launched a 46-day mass march dubbed the ‘Great Return March’ to protest against Israel’s refusal to allow refugees the right to return to their pre-1948 homes.

The protests are expected to continue until May 15, which marks the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian ‘Nakba’ (catastrophe), in which more than 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced by Israeli forces in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. – Bernama
