KUALA LUMPUR — June 18, 2020: The termination of former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as Pribumi Bersatu chairman and of his party member remains valid when a High Court today rejected an application by him and five others for a temporary order to retain their positions in the party.
The six had sought this pending the hearing of an injunction on July 9 but the court found no justification to agree with them.
The application is in relation to a suit to challenge their termination from the party.
The other plaintiffs are Mahathir’s son Datuk Seri Mukhriz, former ministers Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Dr. Maszlee Malik, Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah and Datuk Marzuki Yahya.
Counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla for Mahathir said he had made an oral application for the interim order so that no damage is done until the matter is heard on July 9.
Mahathir and the others had filed a lawsuit to challenge the termination of their membership from the party on May 28.
Apart from seeking for their positions to be reinstated, the plaintiffs were challenging the termination and a declaration that Muhyiddin is not the party chairman.
