PUTRAJAYA — July 14, 2017: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said today it has opened an investigation into the purchase of a four-star hotel in Kensington, London, by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) a few years ago.

Based on information from a preliminary investigation, FIC is believed to have bought the hotel at a much higher price, resulting in FIC losing millions of ringgit, it said in a statement.

“A detailed investigation will be conducted to determine whether there was corruption and abuse of power in the purchase.”

The MACC said it has taken documents pertaining to the purchase and was in the process of evaluating and reviewing the information.

Several key witnesses will be called up soon to have their statements recorded.

The directive to open the investigation was issued recently by MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad after the agency obtained fresh information on the purchase. — Bernama
