MACC lodges police report over allegations of politically motivated arrests

KUALA LUMPUR — June 5, 2020: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has lodged a police report over social media posts claiming that politics was behind the arrests of a few Pribumi Bersatu Youth leaders.

The writer alleged that the arrests were connected to what was said to be an audio recording of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin offering positions in government-linked companies.

The posts suggested that the arrests were not only politically motivated but also without due process of the law.

MACC investigations director Norazlan Mohd. Razali in a statement today said the arrests were connected to an investigation into the missing cash reported by a Pribumi Bersatu Youth leader.

The agency had earlier confirmed the arrest of another Youth leader relating to the loss of RM250,000 belonging to the party’s former Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
