GEORGETOWN — Aug. 7, 2020: First it was the husband who was arrested and charged, following which Betty Chew, wife of former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, was also arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
Prior to her arrest, Chew was taken in for questioning this morning.
According to her lawyer Lee Khai, Lim’s sister Lim Hui Ying posted Chew’s bail of RM50,000.
It is understood that the MACC’s investigation is related to abuse of power and money laundering.
The MACC is believed to be planning to charge Chew and businesswoman Phang Li Koon next week. Phang was detained by MACC last night.
Phang and Lim were acquitted from corruption charges in September 2018.
Lim was charged with corruption in Kuala Lumpur this morning in connection with the Penang undersea tunnel project when he was chief minister of the state.
