SEMENYIH — Feb. 14, 2019: Pakatan Harapan has chosen the son-in-law of the late assemblyman for Semenyih for the by-election on March 2 while Barisan Nasional has also named a local man as its choice.

Muhammad Aiman Zainali, 30, is the treasurer of the Hulu Langat Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia division and is an engineer currently pursuing a doctorate.

The Barisan Nasional candidate is Zakaria Hanafi, the permanent chairman of a local Umno branch, whose selection was announced today by BN deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The by-election follows the death of Bakhtiar Mohd Nor of Pribumi Bersatu, of a heart attack on January 11. It will be the sixth by-election after the 14th general elections in May last year.

In May Bakhtiar won 23,428 votes to defeat Datuk Johan Abd. Aziz of BN, Mad Shahmidur Mat Kosim of PAS and S. Arutchelvan of PSM, giving him a majority of 8,964.

Zakaria, 58, has a bachelor’s degree in Development Science (Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. — Bernama
