KUALA LUMPUR – June 9, 2015:  Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing has refuted allegations of being the person behind the chaotic Nothing2Hide forum.

Lim said today that he knew nothing about the event that was to have taken place last Friday, until he read about it much later in the day.

The event, organised by Sukarelawan Peguam Malaysia or SukaGuam was to have been a dialogue between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and several representatives of non-governmental organisations.

Lim who was recently appointed as Najib’s special program coordinator, said he was not involved in handling the prime minister’s events, public relations, as well as media and communication affairs.

“Where the forum is concerned, I was absolutely not involved in any way.

“People must know there are specific units within the Prime Minister’s Office handling events, public relations, media and communication. I am simply not involved in them,” he replied to queries from The Mole via Whatsapp messages.

As previously reported by The Mole, the event turned rowdy and had to be cancelled. The prime minister was advised against attending it.

However, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad , who is currently Najib’s fiercest critic turned up at the forum held at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

Dr Mahathir said he decided to attend the forum because news on his possible presence had gone viral.

The situation had turned chaotic when hundreds of Dr Mahathir’s supporters turned up at the close door event.

Najib who had agreed to attend the forum to explain the government’s handling of national affairs had to change his plan after the event was cancelled by Inspector General of Police  Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar for ‘safety and security reasons’.

Dr Mahathir had then gone on stage to repeat his dissatisfaction with Najib’s administration and his allegations against 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) but was stopped halfway by  the police to prevent the crowd from getting more agitated.

After the incident, Najib became  a target of ridicule by his critics in cyberspace.

Others in the prime minister’s team of advisers and aides were also targeted, including Lim.

One of Najib’s critics, prominent blogger Syed Akbar Ali of OutSyed the Box had reportedly taken Lim to task over the incident in one of his blog posts which he had since taken down.

Syed Akbar, was quoted in a report dated June 6, to have urged Lim ‘to beat a quiet but hasty retreat’ after Najib did not turn up at the Nothing2Hide forum which he considered as the “PR (Public Relation) disaster of the century”.

He was also reported by a local English daily as saying that Lim was the one who came up with the idea to hold the forum.

When contacted today, Syed Akbar said despite the denial from Lim, he did not have any plan to apologise to the latter.

“I did not say point-blank that he was involved in organising the forum.

“I was just assuming that since he is Najib’s adviser, he might have something to do with it,” he said, adding that what was written in his blog post was not libel.

Syed Akbar was also reported to have reminded Lim that ‘some people’ will not forget that he had allegedly warned Dr Mahathir during a personal meeting to stop criticising Najib.

He pointed that Lim had warned Dr Mahathir that the latter’s “legacy and reputation will be torn to shreds” if he continued his effort to topple the Umno president.

On this matter, Syed Akbar claimed to only cite Lim’s warning from Dr Mahathir’s blog post on June 5.

Though the elder statesman did not mention any name in particular in the post, the comment section was flooded with speculations that he was actually writing about Lim.

Lim had meanwhile used his Twitter account as a platform to fire back at his critics.

“Some people are so unintelligent that they think they are always right and that they have all the right to throw horrible insults at others.

“There are too many wrong assumptions and conclusions, far too many unkind, unreasonable personal attacks. Time will tell. Truth will prevail.

I have absolutely the greatest respect and admiration for Dr Mahathir. Everyone who knows me knows this to be the absolute truth @chedet_cc,” he posted in a series on tweets.
