SEPANG — Oct. 8, 2019: Careful drivers will get discounts on their insurance premiums starting from January, or be given a further discount on their no claim bonus.

The process of updating and sharing of driver information from the Mysikap system of the Road Transport Department and the Royal Malaysia Police is now in the final stage.

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, discussions are also held with the General Insurance Association of Malaysia which agrees for the move to be implemented to raise the level of safety on the road.

All mechanisms needed to provide the discounts are in the final stage of preparation and it will be announced by the end of the year, said Loke after he had chaired the 60th Road Safety Council of Malaysia annual general meeting today.

Loke said his ministry will be regulating school van services which are unlicensed with the introduction of a special regulation based on the framework provided by the Land Public Transport Agency and RTD.

The ministry is now determining the implementation mechanism regulations which among others are similar to the e-haling service.

Yesterday, a newspaper reported that there more than 50,000 vans, MPVs and cars are operating illegally to ferry pupils as well as children for pre-school classes nationwide despite this being an old problem. — Bernama
