KUALA LUMPUR — Dec. 19, 2017: In response to the public outcry over a plan to build some highrise apartments in the area, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today stated that Taman Rimba Kiara has never been gazetted as a public park.
“It is for use as open space with a size of 5.32 hectares. This proposed development will not touch the 5.32-hectare area at all,” he said, adding that the ministry had listened to complaints before the development was approved.
“We engaged with residents on last July 20 and August 3 to explain that we are not touching Taman Rimba Kiara at all.”
Bernama quoted him as saying that the proposed development would help solve the problem of people staying in longhouses for the past 30 years.
“I hope the public would support us in our endeavour to provide proper housing in Kuala Lumpur, especially to the poor and those needing affordable homes,” he said.
The development plan has been the subject of many protests by residents of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail and nature enthusiasts who usually visit the area with their families, especially on weekends.
A few days ago a residents group failed to get the High Court to allow a stay on the development plan.
