Kit Siang is wrong on PAS grassroots memorandum

PAS information chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi

KUALA LUMPUR – Feb 27, 2017: PAS has countered the claim by DAP senior leader Lim Kit Siang that the Islamist party has plotted to openly declare war against Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Pribumi Bersatu.

According to its information chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi, Lim had apparently misread a memorandum submitted by some Selangor members to the PAS central committee last Saturday.

Nasruddin further makes clear that the PAS top leadership has nothing to do with the memorandum which wants PAS to cut ties with any party that works with the DAP and Amanah.

The memorandum was submitted by 10 members at the party’s headquarters here.

They call on PAS to review its ties with PKR which they describe as a thorn in the side, adding that PAS should stand on its own in the next general election.

The members went there also with banners showcasing the faces of top PH and Pribumi Bersatu leaders.

One banner featured Lim and which read “Enemy of Malays/Islam (Racist) – Dr. Mahathir (Mohamad) said.”

This did not go down well with Lim, who thinks that the event was merely a ploy designed by the PAS leadership.

“Although the charade in the last 48 hours is allegedly to be from Selangor PAS grassroots, nobody will be surprised if the memorandum and posters were masterpieces of the PAS information chief,” Lim wrote at his blog today.

Lim also claimed that the Selangor members were in fact disappointed with their president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for his increasingly cordial ties with Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Responding to Lim’s claims, Nasruddin described Lim’s remarks as unfounded, insisting that the PAS leadership came to know of the content of the memorandum only after it was submitted.

“What Lim said is not right at all. He should not poke his nose into our affairs.”

Nasruddin also said the memorandum will be scrutinised at the party’s general assembly in Alor Star in April.
