ALOR STAR — February 2, 2016: The Kedah Council of Regency today met opposition assemblymen regarding the state’s political crisis arising from an earlier declaration of a loss of confidence in the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

Those who followed events said 13 assemblymen were present at Wisma Darul Aman this afternoon — eight from PAS, four PKR, two DAP and one from Parti Amanah Negara.

It is understood that opposition leader and Anak Bukit assemblyman Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah of PAS and Bukit Selambau assemblyman Dr R. Krishnamoorthy of PKR did not turn up as they were abroad and could not make it in time due to the short notice.

Sources said the assemblymen were only informed yesterday about today’s meeting.

Yesterday 20 of 21 Barisan Nasional assemblymen had an audience with the council relating to the same issue while Mukhriz was asked to appear separately later.

Mukhriz has come under much pressure since a group of senior Umno leaders in the state led by deputy state liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md. Hanipah expressed a loss of confidence in Mukhriz at a press conference on January 20. Included in the group were Umno members of parliament from the state. — Bernama
