Johor to have new government

JOHOR BARU — Feb 27, 2020: Johor will have a new coalition government with a simple majority of 28 seats.

A statement from Datuk Jaba Mohd. Noah, private secretary to Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, said the ruler was satisfied with the new set-up after his meeting with assemblymen yesterday, when 28 supported the new coalition and 26 were for Pakatan Harapan. Two assemblymen were away.

Those in the new coalition will have to submit their proposals for mentri besar.

The new coalition comprises those from Barisan Nasional, PAS, Pribumi Bersatu and defecting Pakatan assemblymen. Johor Umno chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad is likely to be appointed the new MB.

Previously, Pakatan had 39 seats in the 56-member state assembly comprising 14 from DAP, 11 from Pribumi Bersatu, nine from Parti Amanah Negara and five from PKR.

BN had 17 comprising 14 from Umno, two from MIC while PAS had one. With the inclusion Bersatu both sides end up with 28 each.
