KOTA KINABALU — June 10, 2015: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar today donated RM1 million to the victims of last Friday’s earthquake in Sabah.

The donation was channelled through the State Disaster Relief Fund Committee.

“The Sabah government and people are thankful to His Royal Highness for the donation of RM1 million to the State Disaster Relief Fund Committee,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said in a statement.

Musa described the donation as most meaningful to the people of Sabah, especially the earthquake victims.

He said he was also touched by the concern of the sultan who had instructed for ‘solat hajat’ prayers to be held in Johor for the safety of the victims.

In Kuala Lumpur, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state was donating RM100,000 to the Mount Kinabalu Earthquake Relief Fund.

The fund would be overseen by Outward Bound Sabah deputy chairman Tan Sri Simon Sipaun and Sabah DAP chairman Jimmy Wong Sze Phin, who is also the member of parliament for Kota Kinabalu.

Wong said people could donate to the fund through Public Bank account 3195-11817.

The 5.9-magnitude earthquake caused the deaths of 18 people, including four mountain guides, who were on Mount
Kinabalu at that time. — Bernama
