JOHOR BARU, Aug 31 2017 : Johor PKR has expressed displeasure with DAP’s intention to contest the parliamentary seats of Johor Baru, Tebrau and Pasir Gudang in the next general election.
Johor PKR chairman Hassan Karim in a statement today chided DAP supermo Lim Kit Siang, who is also the Gelang Patah member of parliament for voicing his party’s intention to contest the three seats which were previously allocated to PKR in past elections.
“Firstly, being a seasoned politician, we acknowledge that Lim Kit Siang is entitled to his personal opinion in this matter.
“However, we would like to reiterate that there is an existing mechanism for seat allocation within Pakatan Harapan and it would be best if all leaders from the component parties were to adhere to it rather than voicing it out through his blog or media,” said Hassan.
He also reminded Lim that an open squabble over electoral seats allocation among the opposition parties will benefit Barisan Nasional.
“Johor PKR has been working hard on the ground at the three mentioned seats since the last general election. We have also identified strong and suitable potential candidates which have been appointed as ‘coordinators’ in the respective seats,” he added.
In the last general election, BN defeated PKR in Johor Baru by a majority of 10,495 votes, Tebrau (1,767 votes) and Pasir Gudang (935 votes). DAP contested six of the 26 parliamentary seats in Johor and won four, while PKR contested 12 but only won one.
