KUALA LUMPUR – March 15, 2018: Titiwangsa parliamentarian Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani has dismissed a claim that he is eyeing to be the Selangor mentri besar and instead would like to defend his seat.

Johari, a first-time MP, won the seat by 866 votes, defeating Ahmad Zamri Asa’ad Khuzaimi of PAS in the 2013 general elections.

The possibility of Johari being a Barisan Nasional nominee for the post of Selangor MB was raised by several media outlets recently.

The speculation intensified after Selangor Pribumi Bersatu Youth chief Adhif Syan Abdullah described Johari as being unfit for the post because the latter was involved in alleged shady deals when he was chairman of UDA Holdings.

Adhif Syan on Monday lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, claiming that Johari was involved in a dubious bidding for two projects in Penang and had held secret meetings with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Responding to the allegation, Johari said there was nothing sinister about his meetings with Lim and that there was nothing wrong with his two stints with UDA Holdings.

“I met Lim to assist UDA in getting much-needed approvals from the Penang government, as several UDA projects in the state were not moving forward.

“The few meetings I had with the chief minister were official meetings, attended by state officials and properly documented,” he pointed out.
