SEPANG — Nov. 3, 2017: Jack Ma, the founder and executive chairman of the Alibaba Group, is amazed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s leadership, vision and determination, especially in realising the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ).
According to Ma, the Malaysian government had put in a lot of effort in making a business-friendly environment by taking away all the barriers within a short time so as to to benefit the e-commerce sector.
“I just want to say thank you and congratulations to the prime minister, all ministers and all the people for working so hard to make this magical thing happen.
“I want to say I am really astonishingly surprised by Malaysia’s vision and speed. Almost a year ago today, the prime minister and I met in China, within five minutes we agreed on the DFTZ and today it has happened in Malaysia,” Bernama reported Ma as saying after the launch of the KLIA Aeropolis DFTZ Park, Alibaba’s first regional e-Fulfilment hub outside China.
Malaysia will be a regional hub that will be part of the Electronic World Trade Platform that will be connected to upcoming regional hubs elsewhere.
Ma said that while many countries were only talking about how to do something for small businesses Malaysia and its government were the ones that have made it happen.
Earlier, Najib and Ma brought to life Malaysia’s DFTZ with 1,972 export-ready small and medium enterprises coming on board.
The zone was launched last March 22 by Najib and Ma.
The trade zone, among others provides physical and virtual zones to facilitate SMEs to capitalise on the convergence of exponential growth of the Internet economy and cross-border e-commerce activities.
