KUALA LUMPUR — Aug. 26, 2019: Nooryana Najwa, the daughter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has been sued by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to pay RM10.3 million in unpaid income taxes from 2011 to 2017.
The government filed a writ of summons and statement of claim through the IRB on July 24 in Shah Alam, naming Nooryana Najwa, 31, as the defendant.
According to the statement of claim, the government alleges that Nooryana Najwa had failed to submit the tax Return Forms to the IRB and that an assessment plus penalties had been raised through Notices of Assessment dated last March 15.
It claimed that because Nooryana Najwa had failed to pay the tax within 30 days from the date of filing of the Notice of Assessment, a 10 per cent penalty was imposed.
For failing to settle the entire amount within 60 days, a further penalty of five per cent was imposed.
The government is seeking from the defendant RM10,335,292.36, interest at five per cent per annum from the date of judgment to the date of realisation, costs and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. — Bernama
