KUALA LUMPUR – Sept 30, 2016: Prominent blogger Helen Ang has refuted the remarks made by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad against two well-known bloggers, Datuk Ahirudin Attan of RockyBru and Zakhir Mohamed of BigDog.
In her latest blog post, Helen had defended the “alpha bloggers” and lambasted Dr Mahathir for claiming that they are “paid” to switch their allegiance against him.
Earlier, the former prime minister in his recent blog post has likened the administration of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to a Nazi regime.
Dr Mahathir had also labelled those who are working with Najib as “Little Goebbels”, in an apparent reference to the propaganda machinery leader during the Nazi regime’s era in Germany, Joseph Goebbels.
In the posting against the government’s current “propaganda machinery”, Dr Mahathir mentioned that Ahirudin and Zakhir were “bought” and that their writings “are to be put in the trash”.
Helen, on the other hand had rebuked the claims made by the former prime minister.
“In his posting ‘Mahathir Kampf’ yesterday, blogger Seademon explained that for Big Dog, the straw that broke the ‘sympathy-for-Mahathir’ camel’s back was when Tun (Dr Mahathir) joined the Bersih protest last year.
“Then came blow after blow that sent Big Dog staggering: Tun works with Kit Siang and the DAP; Tun works with foreign media; Tun asking voters to make the Umno candidates lose their deposit in the twin by-elections; Tun asking for foreign interference in Malaysian affairs; Tun launching a public signature campaign to topple the Umno-led government; Tun forming a new party to crush Umno; and, Tun kiss and make up with Anwar.
“It is all these factors and more that made Big Dog and Rocky’s Bru switch their allegiance. Not ‘dedak’ (payments) as alleged by Tun,” she added.
Helen also noted that The Mole chief executive officer Endie Shazlie Akbar has left the portal.
“Indeed some senior newsmen who are uncomfortable with recent political developments relating to Najib have quit their jobs, such as Mustapha Kamil from NST and Ku Seman Ku Hussain from Utusan.
“Likewise, CEO Endie Shazlie Akbar too recently parted ways with The Mole. It is difficult to imagine a harsh critic of Umno and of Najib’s men deciding to still remain in The Mole unless the said Pro-Tun (Dr Mahathir) reporter is working as the proverbial ‘mole’, i.e. spy planted within the establishment,” she wrote.
Note: The Mole has confirmed that Endie Shazlie Akbar has left the portal to pursue his fast-expanding fashion interests and to concentrate on writing novels.
Endie’s position as CEO has been filled by Zakhir, the other blogger mentioned alongside The Mole’s advisor Ahirudin by Dr Mahathir in his blog posting.
